This event is held each April and November. Pre-K students with the assistance of their parents will participate in an exercise and literacy circuit. There will be 26 stations with each station displaying a letter of the alphabet and a picture of a fruit or vegetable. Upon completion of each exercise, the child will receive a sticker to place next to the letter and fruit or vegetable in their “passbook.” This connects with the learning curriculum at HEAD START/school readiness and programs at HRA.
The Social Work and Physical Education and Human Performance students enrolled in specific courses organize many components of this event. The Pre-K Olympics was initiated by social work students enrolled in FYE/SW 100 Fall 2013 initiated this event. The students were motivated by a presentation on the effects of poverty on children (especially obesity and literacy --entering Kindergarten already behind in vocabulary).
